The Wrapsody explores Black hair, beauty, ritual, and memory with a suite of short films, interwoven together by archival images and commentary from the matriarchs of Miller’s family. Alternating between documentary, experimental shorts and mixed media, each film navigates the viewer through personal and collective histories, familial bonds, and the deep ties between Black women’s hair and identity. The visual anthology exists as a creative expression that pays homage to the evolution of Black beauty and the cultural and economic impact of Black hair.

"The Sacrifice" is an experimental short film dedicated to the lives of Black women that have been killed by police violence. A combination of abstract projection and the sounds of traditional preaching chords common in the Black church, the film is commentary on the theory of intersectionality, exploring the beauty, pain and sometimes fatal sacrifices that come with being a Black woman in The United States.

AMERICAN COLOR THEORY

American Color Theory - Short Film by Natrice Miller and Jamaal Barber, 2018

"Until you understand color in America, nothing you see will make sense." American Color Theory (ACT) by Jamaal Barber debuted at Barber's solo exhibition Bright Black. Using the language of color theory, ACT explains how America defines race. The 10 principles are specifically worded and pair with the videography of Natrice Miller. Along with the art book of the same name, the video created a multimedia experience for viewer at the Southwest Arts Center in Atlanta GA.
